The African Studies Centre (ASC) is founded in 2018. It is one of the original African Studies Center in Turkey and it is recognized by Turkish Higher Education Council. The ASC is located in the Faculty of Economics, Social and Administrative Sciences at Hasan Kalyoncu University, Gaziantep, Turkey. The director of the center is Associate Prof. Dr. Kieran E. Uchehara. It is the first African Studies center established in Southeastern Anatolia. The current research of the centre includes: African-European countries relations; America-African countries relations; African–Middle east relations; Africa-Asia continent’s relations.
The principal purpose of the ASC is to publish scholarly work on Africa in the social sciences, the humanities, and the natural sciences. The research that is published may take a theoretical or speculative model as well as statistical and mathematical. Contributions are welcome from all fields which have relevant and insightful comments to make about Africa.
To broaden public and scholarly awareness about Africa.
To strengthen the academic programs of the center and facilitate the researchers.
To develop better understanding of Africa.
To learn, research and share knowledge related to Africa.
To maintain exchange with national and international research institutions.
To be a contact point for research requests from beyond the university such as the private sector, development cooperation and other organizations.
To cooperate with African partners.
To collaborate across the continent to share the center’s resources and knowledge with Africans and Africanists.
To disseminates knowledge about Africa to the wider community through its interactions with and outreach programs to schools, colleges, other universities, academic and professional organizations, community groups, and businesses.
To sustain contacts and interactive linkages with individuals and institutions on the African continent and worldwide.
To foster an environment that enables a diverse set of scientists, staff, and students to contribute their full potential to help achieve excellence.
To diversify the interdisciplinary understanding of Africa and encourage people to think about the continent in new ways promote and facilitate teaching, research, and scholarship on Africa, with emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa.
Encourage people to re-think about the continent of Africa from new perspectives.
To provide accessible resources about Africa.
